 Updated Class Rules Posted

Hello All,

At the last executive board meeting it was decided to change the wording of class rule 3.7 to clarify the intent of the rule. After the question of the wording of this rule and its intent was made by Jay Brown, a review by the technical committee was done and the Technical Committee made a recommendation to the executive board to change the wording as stated below.

The Executive Board meet Dec 3rd 2007 and approved this change by executive authority "as this is not a rule change but a clarification therefore no vote is needed for this change of language".

3.7 Spars:

3.7.1 Spars shall be of aluminum extrusion with the exception of the spinnaker pole, which may be of aluminum extrusion or COMPOSITE CONSTRUCTION. The mast and the main boom shall be supplied by a licensed builder. No alterations or modifications to the spar extrusions are permitted except to facilitate a repair or attachment of rigging and fittings as specified in these rules.

Also Rule 3.4.1

The original Yanmar 3GM which was fitted to most all J35’s at the factory when new is no longer available. Yanmar’s recommended replacement for the 3GM is the 3YM30. This engine has some minor differences in displacement yet per class rules was approved for use by Jeff Johnstone of J/Boats Inc. Jeff Johnstone stated that the 3YM30 would not make any significant change to the sailing characteristics or sailing speed of the J35.

3.4.1 The engine shall be from a supplier and type approved by J/Boats, Inc.
(Approved engines are Yanmar 3GM or 3YM30)

The updated rules are aviaable in the Class Documents section of the website.

Best Regards,
Bill Wildner
