Earlier in 2007 a question was posed to the board for Technical Review as to would a spinnaker pole that had Kevlar fibers or fabrics other than carbon be legal?

After discussion and review by the Technical Committee we propose the following change to the J35 Class Rules (change is all CAPS):

3.7 Spars:

3.7.1 Spars shall be of aluminum extrusion with the exception of the spinnaker pole, which may be of aluminum extrusion or COMPOSITE CONSTRUCTION. The mast and the main boom shall be supplied by a licensed builder. No alterations or modifications to the spar extrusions are permitted except to facilitate a repair or attachment of rigging and fittings as specified in these rules.

This has been presented to the Class President for review at the next Executive Board meeting for review and possible rule change.

This language was adopted and the class rules have been updated to reflect this change.
