The class rules say that spin poles can be either "aluminum extrusion or resin reinforced carbon fiber." Carbon is light and stiff, but not tough as, say, Kevlar. There are great fabrics out now, including Cobrasox from www.braider.com, that combine carbon and Kevlar. If I build a spin pole using a 50/50 carbon/Kevlar fabric as the outer layer, will it be class legal, or should the Technical Committee look at modifying the class rules to allow fibers other than carbon in spin poles? |
