Subject: 2008 Chicago Mac

We do most of our racing on Lake Superior but we are planning to make the trip down for the 100th running of the Chicago Mac race next July and I was wondering how many other J35 owners plan to be there.

Are you aware of the Top of the Lakes Regatta?

It is held the last weekend in July and run out of the Cheboygan County Marina.

This event is a highlight of the year for Great Lakes Boats.

Hopefully we will have enough to have our own section (8), So far Bad Dog, Bozo's Circus, Touch of Grey, Socialble, Irish Rover, Aftershock, and you make 7. We have several other boats that we will be working on to make the required 8. There at least 4 other boats on Lake Michigan.

Larry, I have my request for invitation in and I am still waiting to hear back from the Chicago Yacht Club. Hopefully I will be able to help you reach 8 boats.

Bill, I would be interested in the Top of the Lakes. I couldn't find any info about it online though, is there a web site?

All I can tell you is that it is held every year for last 6 years on the last saturday and sunday in July. It is held at the Cheboygan County Marina. This even is all about the racing and a great dinner on saturday night. Usualy runs about $250.00 per boat and that includes 8 dinner tickets, bbq lunch on sunday, and keg beer. Also blender drinks on saturday after dinner.

As far as Notice of race and applications in advance, dont hold your breath, this event is not about a Yacht Club making money on a big event. What it is is like minded races getting to gether for some windward leward racing and a fun weekend in Cheboygan.

You realy should plan on it as it is a bargain and a blast.

Please feel free to contact me for details on the Top of the Lakes regatta. I have taken over as district 11 contact and will be coordinating much of the regatta. I will be sending out a Notice of Race in the next month with the basics. Please drop me a note with how to get this to you as well.
