Subject: Replacement fuel tank

I have just shipped my J35 Brutforce from Trinidad to the UK and on the way developed a leak in the diesel tank. I presume is the original aluminium tank installed when Brutforce was built in 1984. Does anyone know if the replacement tanks are still available from any source. I can get a copy custom made in the UK but I wondered if they are a stock item anywhere.

Hello Charles,

replaced my fuel tank 3 years ago by a selfmade plywood tank. I used 8 mm marine plywood, applied a very
thick layer of pure epoxy coating, added the fuel connections, a fuel gauge and that's it. It was ready in one day
only and shows no signs of wear & tear. What you need is some knowledge about epoxy and design.

In the process of replacing the floor in my J35 we discovered that the fuel tank was pitted and would soon start to leak. These areas were repaired and reinforced with epoxy and fiberglass cloth. This was nearly ten years ago and the tank remains leak free.

I bought a replacement aluminum tank from the same company that built the original. The company was called RDS located in Florida and was still in existance about 5 years ago. A new tank was about $450. I actually have the drawing of the tank. I had a couple of extra connections added. I can dig up more info if any one is interested.
