Looking to buy a new set of sails for my J/35. This is for a family cruiser/beer can racer so its probably going to be dacron. Who is the sailmaker of choice these days? Our originals were North and they worked really well. The last set were kinda' stretchy and not as much fun. So who makes the best sails these days? North? UK? Ullman? Your favorites? anyone? Many thanks in advance. -jim lee

I mostly use North 3DL but I have a old North Dacron main for deliveries and cruising that seems to be standing up quite well.

Dacron = Stretchy.
Kevlar = not stretchy
Dacron = durable (good for cruising)
Kevlar = fast (not durable or good for cruising)

Myself I use Kent Sails, a small local sailmaker. I prefer panel sails as apposed to string sails (like 3DL) as I believe they are more durable and can be repaired much more effectively that 3DL type sails. All upwind sails are Kevlar.

I do have a 19 year old Dacron Main that is used for deliveries and has held up very well.

Good luck with you decision.
