Dear all,

I am a new owner of a J35.

Q1 - Can anyone advise me how and where I can identify the hull no. for my boat.  I am not resident in U.S.

Q2 - Can anyone advise me how can I get the ABS certificate?

Q3 - Can anyone advise me the web address of the J35 boat builder?

Q1: The ID for the hull is molded into the transom on the starboard side at the top. It will be series of letters and numbers including TPS (the registered abbreviation for the fabricator). The digits include the hull number and the month and year of the hull release.
Q2: Not sure about what to advise on the ABS Cert.
Q3: The boat builder is Pearson Composites
373 Market Street
Warren, RI 02885
UNITED STATES
Tel +01 401-247-1050

They used to be called TPI....

Hope this helps and enjoy the boat, we certainly do.

Jack,

The hull number is located on the transome. Look for it on the upper corner starboard side. If the boat has been repainted it is possible that the repair may hove covered the hull numbers. If this is the case J-Boats may be able to advise if identification is located in another place. (currently my boat is several hundred miles away currently otherwise I would include picture of ID number location and what it looks like)

Did you buy the boat in HK? Do you know any of its history, past names or owners. If you can supply this information I may be able to help you wit the hull number.

As for your ABS certificate I suggest you direct them to J-Boats directly. Make contact with Jeff Johnstone at his email address, jeffj@jboats.com.

If you obtain a ABS certificate please forward a digital copy and I will have it posted on the website for future reference.

Good luck with your offshore racing, the J35 is a great boat for this.

Once you find the number on the hull, you need the secret decoder ring to pick the hull number out of it.  My number is:

  TPS50257C989

Which translates to

TPS = manufacturer (Tillotson Pearson or TPI in my case)
50 = model number, 50 standing for J35.
257 = hull number, the piece you're looking for.
C = month of the year it was built, A = January.
9 = certification year, last digit only (so 1989 in my case)
89 = year of manufacture, also 1989 in my case.

Hope that helps,

Dear all,

I actually found my hull number at the starboard transome. It reads as TSP50288C091.
Can anyone help me to decode some of uncertain characters/number as follow:
TSP = ?
50 = J35
288 = hull no. of my boat
C = Month built (i.e. March, is it correct?)
0 = certification year (i.e. 1990, the last digit in my case, correct?)
91 = year manufactured (i.e. 1991, the last digit in my case, correct?)

Thanks in advance.

TSP = http://www.pearsoncomposites.com/

Pearson Composites is formerly TPI which spun the boat mfg buisness off.

Pearson Composites is the manufacturer of several boat lines including J-Boats.
